The Flashpoint Ring Li-on is a 400ws lithium powered, self-contained ringflash system optimized to meet the vision of the ever innovative creative professional photographer. This versatile ringflash is an instant favorite tool of the professional studio photographer due to its ability to produce virtually shadow-free lighting, providing mysterious catchlights ‘rings’ in the eyes of subjects when used with fashion and portrait work and a ‘must-have’ for nature and field shooters in macro and close-up situations. Its most important characteristic is to create absolute even illumination with few shadows visible in the photograph. The flash is extremely compact, lightweight and a breeze to use with any DSLR or Medium Format cameras equipped with lenses up to 3.5 inches in diameter. The circular photographic flash has been the light of choice for medical and dental photography where exquisite detail emanating from the ring-of-light is not comprised by harsh off axis flash.
This is the light that is unique among all the desirable strobes. It has all the power to stop action, enhance shape and body, reveal unseen detail and illuminate without shadows. And, it runs circles around flashes that are more powerful. The best and most unique way that a ring flash renders light gives the subject a shadowy halo that is a common feature of fashion photography. As the flashtube surrounds the optical axis of the lens, when the subject is very close to the camera, as is the case in macro photography, the distance of the flash from the optical axis becomes critical. The size of the ring flash is also significant, so that light enwraps the subject from many angles in the same way that it does with a soft box.
The Ring Li-on has third stop incremental adjustable power from full (400ws) to 1/128th power (3ws) via a rear selection dial with settings clearly visible in the ample LCD panel. Indicators for battery level, LED model/video lamp power, audio confirmations and the all important mode selection button, giving you access to Manual, 2 Slave and Stroboscopic modes. Built in overheat protection guards against setting the repetitive flashes too high, thereby avoiding damage to the advanced flashhead. The included diffuser mollifies the output to provide even softer effects from this “Lord of the Ringflashes”. Remote power control using a Flashpoint Commander allows you to wirelessly change your flash power output on the fly from 150+ feet away for off camera work. Standard optical and intelligent optical enhances the varieties of wireless operations, sensing preflash in mode S2. Wired sync is triggered with a PC cable from the supplied 3.5mm plug to camera PC.

Besides the standard hand-held configuration, the Ring Li-on provides sturdy tripod mounting for hands-free studio set-ups. The option means besides being used on-camera with the included, fully adjustable folding camera bracket, the unit employs off-camera with or without an umbrella using the easily affixed umbrella bracket. Or use the 1/4×20 screw mount and add a handle grip for extra balance on-the-run. The Ring Li-On also offers LED constant lighting with 3 level output settings for modeling use or as a constant video light source at a maximum 440 lux (0.5m). The LED lamps feature auto shut off to prevent excessive battery drain.
